Friends & Foes: The intertwined lives of Lord Lovat and Duncan Forbes

Online talk organised by HIghland Archive Service. Bookings via Eventbrite

Description:

1747 saw the deaths of two prominent Highland figures - one on the scaffold and the other of 'heartbreak'. Simon Fraser, Lord Lovat, and Duncan Forbes of Culloden were key figures of 18th C events in Scotland - central to the story of Jacobite Risings and at the heart of many of the 18th centuries tumultuous events.

Join us to mark the 275th anniversary of their deaths and hear their interlinked stories.

Dig: Camas nan Geall, Ardnamurchan ...

29 August 2022

Archaeology Scotland and the Ardnamurchan History and Heritage Association are about to commence another season of archaeological investigations at Camas nan Geall as part of the European Regional Development Fund and Historic Environment-supported Adopt-a-Monument programme on Ardnamurchan.

Over the course of two weeks from the 26th of August, volunteers and members of the local community will investigate some of the prehistoric remains of this beautiful bay. The team has already had two successful seasons digging in the bay, investigating 18th and 19th-century settlements, and results from the project will be presented at the Highland Archaeology Festival in the autumn.

To volunteer, please contact p.murtagh@archaeologyscotland.org.uk.

The second week is fully booked, but there are still spaces from the 26th to the 30th of August.
